Description

Your initiative is our growth – it starts with you. Get ahead of the game by fast-tracking your personal development and fulfilling your potential through this challenging opportunity.

We continue to seek feedback from our previous three intakes of students, which has helped us to improve our scheme and get it to the recognised programme it is today. After a hugely successful third year of the summer placement programme, with our biggest intake yet of 53 students, we have decided to offer the same number of places in 2009.
What we offer

Our ten-week Summer placement scheme gives you a practice run at taking the first step from university to the world of work. You’ll get a real-life look at a graduate career at Centrica, and a first-hand learning experience that gives you the opportunity to understand if we could provide your future career. If so, and you perform well in your placement, you may return to your university with an offer to join the graduate programme after you graduate. We offer a choice of locations across the UK and will ask you to select a first, second and third preference. We will arrange and pay for accommodation close to your chosen location, where you will stay with other interns during your placement.

We offer exciting opportunities to work in one of the following areas:

  • General Management - Across the UK
  • Engineering - Heysham or Barrow, Killingholme/Windsor, Easington
  • Information Systems - Windsor or Staines
  • Finance - Windsor or Staines

We’ll also ask if you’d like to work in a particular area of our business. We can't always meet your aspirations but we’ll aim to offer a placement that provides challenging hands-on experience to equip you with core skills that you can transfer to any workplace.

In return for your hard work and initiative we’ll give you the support you need to achieve your goals:

  • You will benefit from a 'buddy' from our previous graduate or summer placement intake
  • You will be aligned to a line manager who has experience of working within the area of business in which you are placed
  • You will be supported by a graduate programme manager assigned to your business area, who will be responsible for overseeing your performance and development
  • The central team will also be on hand to facilitate your performance

Requirements

We’re looking for self-starters who are assertive, hard-working, and ambitious. Being a team player is very important, but you also need to be able to work independently.

The summer placement scheme is aimed at students just completing their penultimate year, and expecting a 2:2 minimum degree upon graduation in any discipline. Engineers must have 2:2 in a related discipline. We will also consider recent graduates for our programme.

Those on Engineering placements will require a full driving licence to travel between locations. Not all our locations are easily accessible by public transport.
